Sweet almond oil is a natural cosmetic valued for its moisturizing, soothing, and nourishing properties. It has been used in skin, hair, and nail care for thousands of years. Today, thanks to its gentle action and richness in active ingredients, it is an ingredient in many natural cosmetics and home spa treatments.

Where does sweet almond oil come from?

The oil is obtained from the seeds of the almond tree (Prunus amygdalus), belonging to the Rosaceae family. It occurs naturally in Central Asia, but is now cultivated m.in. in Italy, Spain, Turkey, France and California.

The oil is cold-pressed (approx. 30°C) and then partially refined. This preserves its most valuable components, such as:

  • unsaturated fatty acids,

  • vitamins A, D, E and B,

  • mineral salts,

  • proteins.

1. Massage for stretch marks

Massage the oil into problem areas after bathing – the warmth and circular motion will improve blood circulation and skin elasticity.

2. Mask for dark circles under the eyes

Mix 1 teaspoon of oil with 2 teaspoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of full fat milk.
Pat under your eyes – you will notice the effects after a few days of regular use.

3. Natural facial scrub

Mix the oil with sugar or ground coffee and massage into the skin for 5 minutes.
It will exfoliate dead skin and moisturize the skin at the same time.

Combine the oil with liquid honey and apply to lips for 15 minutes.

5. Heel and foot treatment

Before going to bed, massage the oil into your feet and put on cotton socks.

Sweet almond oil and bitter almond oil – what is the difference?

  • Sweet almond oil: safe, gentle, widely used in cosmetics and pharmacy.

  • Bitter almond oil: It contains a natural cyanogenic glycoside (toxic), but trace amounts are removed during the distillation process. It is used much less frequently in cosmetics.

For daily care, definitely reach for sweet almond oil – it is safe and extremely versatile.

Where to buy good almond oil?

Choose cold-pressed, unrefined and certified oils. Avoid synthetic and perfumed oils – they have no nourishing properties. You can find them in natural cosmetics stores, pharmacies, and drugstores.
